These easy chocolate chip waffles from scratch are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and loaded with melty chocolate chips. Made with simple pantry ingredients and no boxed mix, this homemade waffle recipe is perfect for breakfast or weekend brunch.

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

½ teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 ¾ cups milk (or buttermilk)

½ cup melted butter (or oil)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¾1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. Fold in chocolate chips.

  6. Lightly grease waffle iron if needed.

  7. Pour batter into waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crispy.

  8. Remove and place on a wire rack to keep waffles crisp.
