These homemade buttermilk waffles are crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Made with real buttermilk for a light texture and slight tangy flavor, this easy waffle recipe comes together with simple pantry ingredients and cooks up perfectly golden every time.
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1½ cups buttermilk
½ cup melted butter (cooled slightly)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix — a few small lumps are fine.
Lightly grease the waffle iron if needed.
Pour the batter into the hot waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crisp.
Carefully remove and place on a wire rack to keep the waffles crisp.
Repeat with the remaining batter.
For crispier waffles, cook slightly longer and avoid stacking while hot.
• Add 1 tablespoon cornstarch for extra crispy edges.
• Reheat in a toaster for best texture.
• Waffles freeze well for up to 2 months.
