Ingredients

Scale

Breadsticks

  • 1½ cups warm water (about 110°F)

  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2¼ teaspoons)

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 3–4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Garlic Parmesan Topping

  • ¼ cup salted butter, melted
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • ½ teaspoon parsley flakes

  • 1 ½ tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add salt, olive oil, and 2½ cups of flour. Mix until combined. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough:

By hand: Knead on a lightly floured surface for 6–8 minutes.

Stand mixer: Use a dough hook on medium-low speed for 4–5 minutes.

Hand mixer: Use dough hooks for 5–6 minutes.

Dough should be smooth, soft, and slightly tacky.

  4. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Punch down the dough and divide into equal pieces. Roll each piece into breadsticks and place on a lined baking sheet.

  6. Cover loosely and let rise for 15–20 minutes, until slightly puffy.

  7. Preheat oven to 400°F. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and parsley.

  8. Brush the breadsticks with the garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.

  9. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until lightly golden.

  10. Brush with additional butter if desired and serve warm.
